Proud to Support the Musical Stage Company
Championing Canadian Musical Theatre on the International Stage.
Canadian musical theatre is filled with world class talent that deserves to find a home on the international stage.
It’s time to stop exporting our most promising Canadian musicals to American regional theatres, taking away jobs, participation in future royalties, and national pride from the Canadian market.
It’s time to Seize the Spotlight.
The future of musical theatre is in Canada, and The Musical Stage Company is the lock-solid theatre entity to put us on the map.
Within the last ten years, they have prepared Canadian talent to collectively write the next chapter in global musical theatre history- nurturing writers and composers through unique and robust programming unlike any other company in Canada. We need champions who see the value in Canadian theatre and understand that long-term investments are needed to support this programming.
My involvement with The Musical Stage Company began with my support of the extraordinary Britta Johnson. Britta is the future of Canadian musical theatre. As the inaugural artist of the Crescendo Series- a paid, three year residency and a commitment to produce the work of a select Canadian writer- she cemented her position as ‘one to watch’ by the international theatre community.
During her residency Britta wrote LIFE AFTER which garnered six Dora Awards and has since gone on to a celebrated run at San Diego’s Tony Award-winning Old Globe Theatre and is set to premiere at Washington DC’s prestigious Arena Stage in 2021.
Britta is a success story, but we’ve only just begun. New work must be incubated, supported and championed with sustained investments in order to reach its full potential.
Now is our time. Join the movement and be part of the long-overdue rise of Canadian talent. Contact Kate Supleve, Executive Director, Advancement at kate@musicalstagecompany.com or calling
